I am a designer / writer / analyst hybrid known variously as an interface designer, interaction designer or information architect. Under any of these titles my work is the same: to make Web-based user experiences meaningful, useful and usable to the people who need them.

I have 13 years of experience doing this work, in both a software development context, as Senior Interface Designer for a large government contractor; and in a consulting context, as principal of my own design studio. My training includes an undergraduate degree in the social sciences, and graduate level work in both graphic design and creative writing.

Since 1997 I have played a significant role in the design of over 100 interactive systems for government agencies, non-profits, and the occasional do-no-harm business. My projects have included transactional applications for managing complex processes—things like program evaluation, grant management, and collaborative document authoring; OLAP systems for exploring multi-dimensional databases; and information rich Web sites focused on consumer information, academic research, or online community building.
